How to prevent an overmedicated society Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
How to prevent an overmedicated society - Essay Example A number of solutions are available for preventing overmedication. A more effective way for preventing overmedication is through treating bodies well before a person gets sick to prevent sicknesses from creeping in. Individuals need to east healthy and balanced diet, exercise well and regularly, drink plenty water, avoid the intake of toxins like alcohol and smoking and get enough sleep. All of these activities contribute to a healthy immune system thereby truly keeping a personââ¬â¢s body healthy and free from sicknesses (Reger-Nash, 6). Individuals need to be more aware of their health, question what is really in food and become very fit so as to avoid developing conditions like obesity. The second effective solution is taking care of the environment. We need to care for the environment for it always takes better care of us. Individuals need to be skeptical about certain prescribed medications. We need to see prescription as last resort and not as the first suggestion for any condition. For instance, in the case of depression, we need to first explore other forms of treatment like exercise and counseling and only seek prescription only after such ways have been attempted and found to be unsuccessful. Therapy for depression should be made common to prevent overmedication (Reger-Nash, 6). In addition, individuals need to understand the problem as well as the solution to avoid medication. Most importantly individuals need to know their bodies and understand what works for them individually. Even though sometimes people want to do something for them to appear to be in control of the situation, the best method of preventing overmedication is to wait and ride the condition out (Reger-Nash, 6). The immune system often beats the cold virus if given a chance. The high blood system could be managed by simply reducing the salt intake instead of taking medication every morning. Since we are living

Feminism theory Essay
The article ââ¬Å"Just Say No? â⬠by Celia Kitzinger and Hannah Frithspeaks explains why it is important for women to be able to refuse. Special attention is paid to development of feminism perspective on sexual refusal. As the author states young girls and women find it difficult to refuse unwanted sexual relations. Therefore, the author discusses main reasons of being afraid to refuse and consequences of unwanted sexual relations. Further, it is necessary to mention that the article provides detailed overview of feminism theory, core issues and beliefs stating that it is necessary to develop refusal skills to avoid unpleasant situation. The author provides also recommendations how to prevent rape. Firstly, she defines refusals as ââ¬Å"complex conversational interactions, incorporating delays, palliatives, and accountsâ⬠. Kitzfinger admits that nowadays training of refusal skills aims at teaching ââ¬Å"just say noâ⬠instead of paying attention to the mentioned issues. Therefore, young women should be taught assertiveness skills along with refusal and social ones. The author claims that women should be afraid of refusing directly and unapologetically. The author presents also literature review of existing practices of refusing. Secondly, according to empirical data, ââ¬Å"women already can explicitly articulate a sophisticated awareness of these culturally normative ways of doing refusalsâ⬠. It is emphasized that the focus is only on conversational problems, though rape education, refusal skills programs and theoretical rationale are involved as well. Nevertheless, the problem of sexual coercion canââ¬â¢t be solved only by changing the ways women talk, behave and refuse. The author is rather persuasive, because she uses logical arguments, conclusions, facts and viewpoints of different critics to defend her position that women should be more aware of refusal skills. The article leads through abundant data presented to persuade women to be more self-respected, not to be afraid to refuse unwanted sex or simply unpleasant interactions with men. The question appears on the agenda: why women find it difficult to refuse? References Kitzinvger, C. & Frith, H. (1999). ââ¬Å"Just Say No? How Soda Tax And Its Impact On Cupertino Schools - 1949 Words
Ah! A hot summer day and a cool can of soda. What could be better! But can you imagine my angst, when in spring break my Mom threw away all the Soda cans left over from the new year party. This got me thinking, so I challenged my mom and was chagrined when she said Take a look at Berkeley, and why they passed the first Soda Tax in America What follows is a chronicle of my 8 weeks of journey starting with scientific inquiry trysts in Cupertino library to meeting a Professor of nutrition at Stanford University to discussions of classic American battle of taxes, a chance meeting and life lessons in advocacy from the Mayor of Sunnyvale and finally landing back in Cupertino - this time in city hall with councilman Darcy Paul. Calcium is necessary not only for keeping our bones strong, but also to help our nerves send messages to our brain and muscles contract. Less calcium can lead low bone density and fractured bones. Soda consumption can lead to health issues such as obesity and diabetes. The more soda consumed the higher insulin level. High insulin levels can result in visceral fat gain, leading to Americaââ¬â¢s major problem; obesity. 24.1% of Californians are obese a nd 18.4% are obese in Cupertino. Although our body needs cholesterol to function like anything, too much can be harmful. High cholesterol can clog the coronary arteries, which surround and supply the heart. The outcome of high cholesterol is heart disease. Another health issue which can occur if consumption of soda is very high is diabetes. Diabetes occurs when the body canââ¬â¢t produce enough insulin or canââ¬â¢t use the insulin the body produces properly. The higher the consumption of SSB(Sugar sweetened beverages) the higher chance of getting diabetes. Barry Popkin, a professor of nutrition at the University of North Carolina, says that the people getting diabetes are people who consume very high levels of SSBs and have only slightly reduced in these very high levels of their soda consumption. The Wife Of Bath s Prologue And Tale Essay - 1722 Words
Empowered It is no secret that women throughout history have been seen as the less of two halves. In other words, they were always undervalued and held no real political/social standard within society. In fact their only job in society was to be obedient/submissive to their male counterparts. However, The Wife of Bathââ¬â¢s Prologue and Tale, a poem written by Geoffrey Chaucer, redefine those ideals set upon women. The poem is broken up into two parts one is the prologue which includes a woman who talks about the rules set by the church and society on women. As well as how society looks upon women who live her life style. She counters these teaching by her knowledge of the bible by introducing biblical men who had more than one wife. It is later revealed that her sole purpose for doing this was not only to gain women sovereignty. But, to create an equal plane for both the husband and wife in order to formulate a happy marriage and to prove that a women can decide to be submissive or not. After the prologue comes the women tale, which she talks about each of her five husband and how she uses her feminine charm to control them. As well as a male knight who suddenly finds himself in a very dire situation and is in need of help. The same women, now old, helps the knight in exchange for his hand in marriage. Rhetorical analysis of the sha Essay Example For Students
Rhetorical analysis of the sha Essay Rhetorical Analysis of The Shawshank RedemptionThe Shawshank Redemption is an inspiring story about Andy Dufreine and his efforts to maintain hope in horrible situations. The directors used many effective methods that displayed signs of hope in such a horrible place.Andy maintained hope by distracting his mind and always staying occupied. Andy was also inspired to survive by helping others find hope in life. The creators of this movie used several effective, and often subtle, methods to illustrate the hope found in Andy and his surroundings. Andy was always portrayed as a clean-cut and well-groomed prisoner with his shirt always buttoned and his hair always combed. This self-respect was in great contrast to the other prisoners who were portrayed as dirty, stereotypical prisoners. The common prisoners also had vocabularies and grammar that were far inferior to Andyââ¬â¢s. The distinctions between Andy and the common prisoners showed that Andy was different, those differences were th at he had hope. Many scenes involved ironic contrasts between the tone and the surroundings. On several occasions the background music was cheerful and upbeat while the physical settings and scenery were terribly dark, dreary and depressing. One good example of this is the scene where Andy was helping the guards with their taxes. There was upbeat and cheerful music but the room and the surroundings were dark and gloomy. This hint of happiness represents how Andyââ¬â¢s hope was unexpectedly surviving inside the prison walls. Andy distracted himself from his life in prison by staying occupied with physical and mental activities. The first distraction for Andy was the rock hammer, which allowed him to keep physically occupied. The rock hammer allowed Andy to stay optimistic about returning to a normal life by reminding him how life was on the outside. The rock hammer was also very important and symbolic in Andyââ¬â¢s escape. His escape was portrayed as glorious and represented the final result of keeping hope. Andy was assigned to the library, which built up to the largest events in his pursuit of hope. He was presented with the opportunity to help the guards with financial advising and filling out tax forms, which virtually removed Andy from the prison life and let him operate almost completely as if he were at his old job. His job allowed him gain the respect of the guards, which relieved some of the awfulness of prison life. Andyââ¬â¢s attempt to enlarge and develop the library was another distrac tions for him. His constant letter writing to request funds for expanding the library took some of Andyââ¬â¢s time and allowed him to focus his mind on things other than prison. After his years of requests were finally answered with books and eventually annual funds Andy and Red were presented with the full time job of maintaining the new, huge library. These new responsibilities were key in making their lives bearable and in lessening the difficulties of prison. The actual receiving of the books and funds also inspired the men and gave every prisoner hope of overcoming the gloom of prison. Dufreine encouraged his fellow inmates to sustain their hope in an attempt to help him to protect his own hope. Andy put himself into risky positions to benefit his group of friends. When Andy got the head guard to bring his friends beers while working on the roof he was faced with a threat of injury or even death. Andy felt it was well worth the risk to be able to see his fellow ââ¬Å"co-wor kersâ⬠smile and relax. Red said that it was a wonderful thing ââ¬Å"just to feel normal again, if only for a short while.â⬠The guards laughed at the use of the term ââ¬Å"co-workersâ⬠by Andy, but it is an excellent example of Andyââ¬â¢s subliminal thoughts of hope and his optimistic view of the awful circumstances he was in. Andy also suffered consequences for his pursuit of hope when he played the music over the speakers. His actions not only made him feel good but also allowed the other men to ââ¬Å"feel normal again.â⬠Andy helped several prisoners gain their high school diplomas while in prison. This not only allowed Andy to feel great about himself and what he was accomplishing but it also permitted the men he was helping to have hope for a better life when they get out. .u480d305d325a9e3d1a0895f8e764b64f , .u480d305d325a9e3d1a0895f8e764b64f .postImageUrl , .u480d305d325a9e3d1a0895f8e764b64f .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u480d305d325a9e3d1a0895f8e764b64f , .u480d305d325a9e3d1a0895f8e764b64f:hover , .u480d305d325a9e3d1a0895f8e764b64f:visited , .u480d305d325a9e3d1a0895f8e764b64f:active { border:0!important; } .u480d305d325a9e3d1a0895f8e764b64f .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u480d305d325a9e3d1a0895f8e764b64f { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u480d305d325a9e3d1a0895f8e764b64f:active , .u480d305d325a9e3d1a0895f8e764b64f:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u480d305d325a9e3d1a0895f8e764b64f .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u480d305d325a9e3d1a0895f8e764b64f .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u480d305d325a9e3d1a0895f8e764b64f .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u480d305d325a9e3d1a0895f8e764b64f .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u480d305d325a9e3d1a0895f8e764b64f:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u480d305d325a9e3d1a0895f8e764b64f .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u480d305d325a9e3d1a0895f8e764b64f .u480d305d325a9e3d1a0895f8e764b64f-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u480d305d325a9e3d1a0895f8e764b64f:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: House Cats EssayHope was the only thing the prisoners had to survive on and Andy was the key factor of stimulating hope.
